Staff at Comsolve Systems have been developing and supporting customised solutions to meet clients’ IT requirements for over 20 years. Today we have a number of applications, a large library of solutions and most importantly the expertise and enthusiasm to meet client requirements.
Our solutions are typically based on the use of rapid application development tools for relational database management, data integration, reporting and communication tasks. Most applications are client-server based designed for multi-use access via local area networks run under Windows 2000 Server and Windows XP/2000/98/95. These applications may incorporate the use of laptop and handheld units or communicate over wide area or internet links.
Examples of recent systems designed, developed, implemented and supported, include:
Production/inspection data collection and certificate generation:
This system combines PC based database management of industrial product control, calibration documentation and labelling with Psion Workabout handheld computers used to gathering of production data either by direct manual keypad entry or automatically for production rigs via the serial interface of the Psion's docking station.  The production data, verification rules and profiles to be collected are managed by the PC application written.  The applications is configured to collect calibration characteristics of precision tools produced in batches of up to several hundred and at a later date generate the appropriate calibration certificate and packing labels.  The system generates readily configurable and multi-lingual certificates and other reports including the support of customer specific logos.  A combination of laser and thermal transfer printers are used for the output.  Project budgeting and forecasting of works orders, labour and materials:
A project management and accounting tool which maintains time and material budgets for works orders and monitors this against actual spend.  Project managers are issued with the analysis for their projects on a monthly bases for verification, approval and amendment.  The system allows progress, spend an amendments to be accurately tracked and approved by others as appropriate.  The system imports data from time accounting, finance, material control and project planning systems and applies its own date and grade dependant charge rates.  Multiple works orders and amendments are consolidate to provide analysis at the project as well as the works order level.  Data is maintained for the life of each project with monthly and cumulative analytical and management reports provided.
Financial cost control of works orders, labour and materials:
This project management and accounting tool works in tandem with the budget and forecasting package, with data shared in a common MS-SQL database.  The system provides for detailed analysis of order book, reserves and stock movement, opening and closing statistics.  Data is imported from works order processing systems, labour and invoice control systems with manual entry of additional data.  Analysis results are reported as a hard copy and, for further use by others, exported in the form of Excel spreadsheets.
 Crop management purchase ordering:
A distributed order purchasing system which maintains multiple replicas of a sever based database of product, supplier, customer and order details.  Replicas of the database may be located on laptops or desktop computers with data synchronisation on demand over LAN or dialups links.  The system maintains details of agricultural seeds, chemicals and fertilisers including their component parts, manufactures and suppliers, list and negotiated prices.  Orders may be built up, consolidated and placed directly from any computer with orders directly transmitted to the suppliers by email, fax or hardcopy.  Optimisation of suppliers and product based on user definable criteria is provided.   A large selection of analytical and management reports is also included.  All orders, new or revised support data, etc., entered to any laptops or desktop are automatically updated to all other machines as part of the database synchronisation, thus minimising support requirements and allowing for global management and reporting of all transactions.  Production forecasting:
Generation of sales forecasts based on 4 years past invoices, marketing and development/customer supplied forecasts, with equivalent parts substitution, Chebyshev polynomial curve fitting curve extrapolation and management data tacking. Curve fitting selection, data analysis and on-screen graphic charts and drill down to detailed data is provided. The application makes use of corporate data files and "fuels" the production stock/management system the next 7 period production - on a per part basis. The application is designed to manage several hundred or several thousand parts.
 Sales analysis:
Analysis of mainframe generated invoice and order files to provided sales statistics, profiles and performance indicators. Statistics are partitioned by a number of criteria to suit the clients needs including by country, region, area, salesman, product and category. Statistics may be tracked within 1 day of the event and be presented on a rolling time basis with summaries for the year, period and the week to date presented in terms of volume, cost and value.
 Utility monitoring:
Consumption and demand data for electricity, gas, oil, water, telephones and similar utilities are captured, analysed and reported. The application includes the use of hand-held computers for meter reading and reading verification and PC based meter reading tour management software to organise the reading tours and to supply the handheld units the meter description profiles and verification data. Reading data may also be acquired from on-line monitoring subsystems and via file transfer. Data search, historic analysis, cost and consumption profiling and a large variety of user reports and data access/exports are provided. Click link on the left to view schematic.
 Meter invoicing:
Frequently integrated with our utility monitoring suite, this application allows the user to define and apply tariff models, purchasing and resale policies. The application generates batch and individual pro-forma and detailed invoice data, presents these as reports and transfers the data to the corporate sales ledger in an appropriate invoice files format. The application supports customer records; meter records; virtual meters; unit, fixed, meter and assessed charges; multi-rate, stepped, demand and capacity tariffs; meter reading apportionment and usage allowances based on units or percentages; VAT threshold evaluation and invoice tracking.  Premises area management and CAD drawing management:
This application provides for the integration of site, building and room area measurement and usage data, the import, conversation and presentation of CAD drawings and photographs and the capture of conventional documentation to provide a coherent view of the premises management data. It incorporates database management, analysis and reporting. Typically used to provide distributed user access to centrally held data in a flexible, graphical and user friendly manner.  DOS dBase to Windows dB2k
There remains a huge number of DOS dBase applications in use today.  Technology has however moved on and today the all-prevailing "Windows" environment is the norm.   There are many approaches one may take to this dilemma and no single solution will be applicable to all.  We have helped many clients with such problems including the development of automatic code conversion procedures.
