Carbon emission reduction

Carbon emission reduction embraces three main themes:

q Reduction in waste, losses or usage
q Improved plant and efficiencies
q Use of “greener” fuels, materials and products.

We have many years experience in delivering all three.

We may typically start with a forensic energy audit to establish where to concentrate on, coupled with a carbon footprint to provide a reference to measure progress against.  Our experience has shown that frequently large and immediate benefits can be gained at minimum cost by addressing basic issues such as rectifying building service plant controls and operational conditions.   This may entail site surveys to identify operating strategies and settings, rectifying faults and resolving localised abnormal conditions which my otherwise dominate conditions.  We may then move to providing longer term actions, new plant and controls systems, user awareness programmes, monitoring and targeting systems an so forth as part of a more complete energy management scheme.

Sustainability is the other half of managing carbon emissions.  The above will help reduce usage of fossil fuels (including electricity) but this can be greatly assisted by moving to alternative energy sources.  Biomass (e.g. wood pellets) and solar are perhaps the two most appropriate today but this will depend on your local circumstances.  At least equally important is the makeup of your procurement - your carbon footprint will have shown you that this is perhaps a third or more of your total emissions.  By purchasing product with less wastage, longer life, reusable or recyclable, made from martial’s with less embedded carbon, or simply by reducing purchases through changes in operational practices, can provide big carbon savings.  We can help you identify and achieve these opportunities.
